‘Cut off the hands and legs… only then will people improve!’ Court got angry at rape accused, said shocking thing
Fear of law has ended among criminals
Why are the morale of criminals so high in our country? The answer to this question perhaps lies in this latest comment of the Karnataka High Court. Hearing a very serious case, the Karnataka High Court has flatly refused to grant bail to a 23-year-old rape accused. The court took a very strict stance during the hearing and said that nowadays people are committing crimes very carelessly and like a routine. This is happening because under the existing law, criminals are not being dealt with as strictly as is required.
Democracy and rights are being misused
Justice R. is hearing the case. Nataraj seemed quite concerned about the increasing crimes in the country. While making oral remarks, he said that people are taking wrong advantage of the rights given under the democratic system. He further gave an example which has caught everyone’s attention. The judge said that perhaps the harsh punishment given in Middle-Eastern or Arab countries, in which even human organs are cut off if found guilty, will now be able to force people to follow the law.
The court said in a very harsh tone that there is no fear of law left in the minds of criminals because we do not deal with them strictly. This is the reason why it has become very easy to commit crime here, whereas in the countries of the Middle East such a thing is not even possible. If you cut off a criminal’s hand or leg, then perhaps others will understand the importance of law. Since there is democracy in our country, everyone takes the system here very lightly.
If you have eaten salt then you will have to drink water also.
The entire heated argument took place during the hearing of the bail plea of Gopi Reddy Karthik Reddy, a student of MIT Manipal. Accused Karthik Reddy is in jail (judicial custody) since April 5 on rape charges. The court flatly refused to grant him relief. While directing to keep the accused in jail, the judge said in a very native style that if you have eaten salt, you will have to drink water also. He should be allowed to remain in jail for four-five more days so that he can get used to there. The court also quipped that who knows, if in future you are convicted in this case, you will have to go back to jail again.
At present, the court has issued a notice to the state government on the bail plea of accused Reddy and sought its reply. Now the next hearing on this entire matter has been fixed for June 8. However, lawyer Ayantika Mandal, appearing for the accused, had argued that her client has been behind the bars for the last two months and has not committed any crime. The lawyer also argued that the entire case is related to an alleged incident that is about 3 years old, and continued imprisonment will have a detrimental effect on the student’s career and future.
Expression of love and then cruelty in the apartment
According to the prosecution’s story, both the complainant girl and the accused studied together at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) and were classmates. The victim told the police that the accused had expressed his love to her in July 2023. Initially the girl had also expressed her consent towards him. But gradually as time passed, the girl started having deep doubts about the boy’s behavior and character, after which she started maintaining distance from the accused.
The turning point in the case came when on September 12, 2023, the accused called the girl to his apartment on the pretext of talking and giving their relationship another chance. According to the complaint, when the girl reached there, the accused went against her will and physically abused her and committed a heinous crime like rape.
After this incident, the victim student was so broken that she went into deep shock and depression. When his condition worsened, he had to undergo treatment at KMC Hospital in Manipal. After recovering a little from this shock, she knocked on the door of the National Commission for Women (NCW) in Bengaluru before filing a complaint with the police, after which the entire matter came under the ambit of legal action.
