CWG 2026: Dilip Gavit won gold, Murali Sreeshankar again got silver in long jump.

Tezzbuzz Desk- Wednesday of the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow was full of great achievements for India. Indian players strengthened the country’s medal tally with strong performances in athletics, para-athletics and boxing. Star long jumper Murali Sreeshankar created history by winning a silver medal in the men’s long jump event, while in para-athletics, India won both gold and silver medals in the men’s 100m T47 event. 27-year-old Murali Sreeshankar won the silver medal with a best jump of 8.09 metres. With this, he has become the first Indian athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Games to win two consecutive medals in the long jump event. Earlier, he had also won a silver medal in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. By finishing on the podium in two consecutive editions, Sreeshankar has registered a new achievement in Indian athletics.

In this event, Taja Gayle of Jamaica won the gold medal with a jump of 8.15 meters. Meanwhile, host Stephen McKenzie of Scotland won the bronze medal with 8.08 metres. The competition was very exciting, as there was a difference of only one centimeter between silver and bronze. Another Indian player Lokesh Satyanathan also performed well and finished fifth with a best jump of 7.97 metres.

India also gave a historic performance in para-athletics, winning both gold and silver medals in the men’s 100 meter T47 event. This achievement is considered very special for Indian para-athletics and it shows that the country’s para players are also continuously performing well at the international level. This success has given new strength to India’s medal campaign.

Even in boxing, the performance of Indian players was as per expectations. Indian boxers have assured themselves of at least 10 medals, surpassing their previous Commonwealth Games performance.
