Scam Alert: Cyber thugs active during festival season, big danger hidden behind congratulatory message
Happy New Year Scams: Cyber crime cases are increasing rapidly in the country. Cyber criminals are finding new ways to cheat people every day. Especially during the festival season, their activities become more intense. During festivals, people are being targeted in the name of congratulatory messages, gift offers and special schemes. Cyber police has issued a strict warning to the general public regarding this.
Fraud in the name of gift and congratulatory message
According to cyber police, fraudsters are now sending fake links to people luring them with congratulatory messages and free gifts. As soon as a person clicks on these links, his personal information becomes at risk. In view of this, the Cyber Crime Branch has issued an advisory and appealed to the people to maintain distance from any suspicious message or link.
You may have to click on the congratulatory message.
Officials related to cyber crime say that now thugs are targeting a large number of people simultaneously. On occasions like Christmas and New Year, there is a flood of congratulatory messages, which cyber criminals take advantage of. They send attractive messages and instigate people to click on the link and then commit fraud.
The biggest protection is to avoid unknown links.
Experts advise to be cautious about messages in the name of any tempting offer, reward or government scheme. Clicking on unknown links can introduce malware or viruses into your device, which can lead to theft of bank details, passwords and personal data. In recent times, cases of cyber fraud have also come to light in the name of central government schemes.
Cheating in a new way like digital arrest
According to the Additional Police Commissioner, his team is not only working continuously to catch cyber criminals but is also emphasizing on making people aware. He told that during the festive season there is ‘digital arrest’. Like people are being cheated by scaring them in new ways. In such cases, instead of panicking, one should immediately contact the police or cyber cell.
