Cyclone Fengal Landfall : Cyclonic storm 'Fengal' formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to reach near Puducherry by this afternoon. Due to which heavy rain is expected in many parts of Tamil Nadu including Puducherry and the wind speed can reach up to 90 kilometers per hour. In view of the storm, officials have advised local people to stay in their homes.

Anand Das, head of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Cyclonic Division, said a red alert has been issued in view of the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over many parts of Tamil Nadu, South Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Interior Karnataka. At the same time, Dr. S. Balachandran, Director of Regional Meteorological Center, Chennai, said that Cyclonic Storm Fengal will have more impact on most of the coastal districts having crossing points between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram near Puducherry. There will be heavy rain with strong wind. Wind speed can range from 60-70 km per hour to 90 km per hour. There will be extremely heavy rain between 1 and 2 pm. There will be heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places.

In view of the threat of Cyclone Fangal, fishermen have been warned not to go into the sea. According to IMD, Cyclone Fengal will reach Tamil Nadu coast this afternoon. During this time, the effect of cyclone can be seen in Kameshwaram, Virundhamavadi, Pudupalli, Vedrappu, Vanmadevi, Vallapallam, Kallimedu, Eravayal and Chembodi areas. At the same time, NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby to deal with the emergency. Also, all schools and colleges at these places will remain closed on Saturday.
