D Gukesh defeats Ding Liren in Round 3, level the score in World Championship

Mumbai Mumbai. Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh defeated defending champion Ding Liren in the third round to level the points table at the World Chess Championship on Wednesday. Both players now have 1.5-1.5 points. The 18-year-old Indian player won after 37 moves and showed excellent initial preparation to defeat the Chinese player. Liren paid a heavy price for wasting too much time in the first phase of the game. By the 13th move, Gukesh had a lead of one hour as the Indian player took just four minutes to make his move, while Liren took one hour and six minutes.

With 40 moves played without any lead in the first 120 minutes, the complex middle game had the desired effect on Liren and Gukesh was tireless in finding some difficult but correct moves to increase the pressure. The players followed a rarely played variation of the Queen's Gambit and Gukesh followed the idea played by former world champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia in a rapid game against the highest-rated Indian Arjun Erigaysi.
