Dacoit Movie Review: Mrunal Thakur steals the show, but weak screenplay spoils the game
Dacoit Movie Review: Some films captivate you with their atmosphere and emotions right from the beginning and “Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha” also seems to be one of them. The initial part of the film is so strong that you start expecting an intense, heart-touching love story. But as the story progresses, the film gradually turns into confusion. However, it is certain that Mrunal Thakur’s acting in the film is so tremendous that you will just keep getting lost in it.
What is the story of “Dacait: Ek Prem Katha”?
The story of the film revolves around Saraswati i.e. Mrinal Thakur and Hari i.e. Adivi Sesh. Saraswati comes from a renowned family, whereas Hari has a completely different background. Love falls between the two, but soon betrayal, revenge and emotional pain dominate the story. On paper, this story sounds quite powerful, of love that tries to survive amidst social inequalities. But it does not appear that clearly on the screen. The story meanders frequently, the characters’ thoughts and decisions don’t seem clear, and at times the viewer is at a loss to understand what’s going on.
Excellent acting by Mrinal Thakur
If there is any biggest reason to watch this film, it is Mrunal Thakur. She has played the character of Saraswati with truth and depth. Her pain as a broken, helpless girl, her silences seem so real that at times you forget that you are watching a movie. The tiredness in his eyes, the emotional burden on his face, everything is heart-touching. To be honest, many scenes become effective only because of his acting.

Adivi Sesh and supporting cast
Adivi Sesh’s acting is also quite controlled and balanced. He does not overact, which proves to be right for his character. Anger, pain and a restraint are clearly visible in his acting. In the supporting cast, actors like Anurag Kashyap, Prakash Raj and Atul Kulkarni strengthen the film. Especially Anurag Kashyap makes the story a little clearer and interesting with his presence in the climax of the film.
Direction, technical aspects and music
Director Shanil Dev shows his grip in the beginning. The setup and atmosphere of the film looks attractive. But as the story progresses, the direction begins to weaken. The film gets caught up in trying to make itself seem more “smart” and layered, and in the process loses its clarity. The technical aspects of the film are not that impressive. The cinematography doesn’t take full advantage of the locations and the visuals lack depth. Music is also the weak link of this film.

Why watch “Dacait: Ek Prem Katha”?
“Dacait: Ek Prem Katha” had everything, a strong story, great actors and a good initial setup. But weak writing, complicated screenplay and inconsistent direction hold it back. If you want to see the brilliant acting of Mrunal Thakur, then definitely watch this film. Adivi Sesh’s seriousness and Anurag Kashyap’s presence also add something nice to the film.
