Dadasaheb Phalke Award to film actor Mithun Chakraborty

On giving Dadasaheb Award to film actor Mithun Chakraborty, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav posted on his social media account It has been decided to give an award for his significant contribution. The award will be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8.

Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty was born on 16 June 1950 in Kolkata. He has received the Padma Bhushan Award for his contribution to films. He has also been a member of Rajya Sabha and is currently a leader of BJP. He has made good contributions to the society in the form of films, politics and social worker. Mithun made his acting debut in the art film Mrigaya (1976), for which he received his first National Film Award for Best Actor. He gained a huge fan following as a dancing star during his heyday in the 1980s and established himself as one of India's most popular lead actors, notably as street dancer Jimmy in the huge hit 1982 film Disco Dancer. The role made him popular. In the 1980s, he was a more popular actor than Bachchan. In total, apart from acting in more than 350 Bollywood films, he also did many films in Bengali, Odia and Bhojpuri. Mithun is also the owner of Monarch Group which is engaged in the hospitality sector.
