Dale Steyn Steps Down as Sunrisers Hyderabad Bowling Coach

The former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn will be quitting as Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach and won’t be returning for IPL 2025.

However, Dale Steyn will continue his duties with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league. The 41-year-old has withdrawn from IPL 2024 for personal reasons which forced the franchise to appoint former New Zealand cricketers James Frankins as their bowling coach.

“Cricket announcement. A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa.”

“Two-time winners here in SA20, let’s try to make it THREE in a row,” read the tweet from Steyn.

The 41-year-old Steyn has played for Deccan Chargers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions. Dale Steyn has played 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20Is in his international career. His last appearance as a player came with RCB in 2020 before joining Sunrisers as their bowling coach in 2022.

SRH reached finals in the IPL 2024 but was defeated by KKR marking their first appearance in the final since 2018.

Given the team’s success under the Vettori Franklin partnership, they may opt to retain their coaching setup for the next season.

Meanwhile, SRH is set to retain Heinrich Klaasen, captain Pat Cummins and Abhishek Sharma ahead of the IPL mega auction scheduled to happen later this year.
