Dale Steyn will step down from the post of bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, confirmed

New Delhi, 17 October (Hindustan Reporter). Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has announced that he will not return as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Steyn said he would remain in coaching with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league.

“Thank you very much to Sunrisers Hyderabad for spending a few years with me as their bowling coach in the IPL, unfortunately, I will not be returning for IPL 2025,” Steyn said in a post on Twitter. “However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa.”

Earlier this year, Steyn made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 due to personal reasons and Sunrisers appointed former New Zealand cricketer James Franklin as their bowling coach to work with head coach Daniel Vettori.

Steyn, 41, represented Deccan Chargers (now defunct), Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers and Gujarat Lions (now defunct) in the IPL during his playing days. He last played for RCB in IPL 2020 before being named as Sunrisers' bowling coach ahead of the 2022 season. He is credited with playing a vital role in the development of Umran Malik and several other fast bowlers in the Sunrisers ranks.

Sunrisers had reached the final of IPL 2024 before losing to KKR. This was their first appearance in the IPL final since finishing runners-up in 2018. Given their success under the Vettori-Franklin combo last year, Sunrisers may look to retain their coaching staff.
