Dambulla T20I: Sri Lanka beats West Indies by 73 runs

Sri Lanka�दांबुला : Thanks to Pathum Nissanka's brilliant half-century and excellent performance by the bowlers, the Sri Lankan team defeated West Indies by 73 runs in the second T20I of the three-match series played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium here on Tuesday.

Nissanka scored 54 runs in 49 balls, which included nine fours and a six. Chasing the target of 162 runs, the visiting team collapsed for 89 runs in the 17th over of the innings. On behalf of the team, captain Rovman Powell scored the maximum 20 runs, which included a four and a six. Alzarri Joseph (16 runs in 10 balls with the help of one four and a six) and Sherfane Rutherford (14 runs in 16 balls with the help of two fours) were the two other West Indies players who touched double figures.

The highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka was left-arm spinner Dunith Vellalej, who took three wickets in four overs and gave away only nine runs. Mahesh Theekshana, Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets each in their respective spells. Right-arm fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana also took one wicket for 12 runs in two overs.

Earlier in the day, host Sri Lanka captain Asalanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Asian Lions scored 162 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of the first innings.

Apart from Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (26 runs from 25 balls with the help of two fours and one six), Kusal Perera (24 runs from 16 balls with the help of three fours and one six) and Kamindu Mendis (1 four and 1 from 14 balls) 19 runs with the help of six) played valuable innings for his team. Shepherd was the leader among the bowlers for the Caribbean, taking two wickets for 23 runs in his three overs. Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Shamar Springer took one wicket each in their respective spells.
