It so happened that a social media user shared a clip of Garam Masala along with that of Boeing Boeing and wrote, “Another good memory ruined” referring to the fact that he is just now realising that the Bollywood comedy was lifted from a Hollywood film.

Check out the clip below:

Reacting to the same, one user wrote, “Had hai ..ek bhi original nahi banate ye log”.

Another user commented, “Kuch bhi original nahi hai bollywood ke paas”.

A third user reacted, “All Priyadarshan movies are copied”.

A fourth user wrote, “How is Hollywood able to come up with so many original ideas but not Bollywood.. even though we make more films..”

Check out some of the responses below:

However, there were also others who pointed out that Priyadarshan is known for remaking films in Hindi and that Garam Masala not being an original film is also a known fact.

For the unversed, Garam Masala is a remake of Priyadarshan’s 1985 Malayalam film Boeing Boeing which in turn was a rip-off of the 1965 Hollywood film of the same name. Interestingly, the Hollywood film was based on a 1960 French play of the same name.

There was also a Telugu remake titled Chilakkottudu (1997) and a Kannada remake Nee Tata Naa Birla (2008).

Released on Diwali 2005, Garam Masala was a big success at the box office and became the fourth biggest grosser of the year trailing behind No Entry, Bunty Aur Babli and Salaam Namaste.
