Dane Peterson Ravages Through Pakistan Top Order

Dane Peterson Ravages Through Pakistan Top Order: South Africa Cricket Team medium-pace bowler Dane Peterson has torn through the Pakistan Cricket Team’s top order on Day One of the first South Africa vs Pakistan Test match at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion.

This is the final leg of Pakistan’s tour to South Africa. First, the home side won a three-match T20I series 2-0, then, the visitors shocked the world by winning the ODI series 3-0. Now, we arrive at the two-match Test series.

South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first on this challenging pitch and started testing the openers right from the first over. By the time 14 overs were bowled, the Men in Green had only scored 36 runs before captain Shan Masood was dismissed by Corbin Bosch.

This was the start of not only the collapse of Pakistan’s top order but also of pacer Dane Peterson catching fire. In the very next over, he took his first wicket, dismissing the other opener, Saim Ayub.

Then came the big wicket. Babar Azam looked shaky on this pitch right from the start. In the 18th over, with him only having batted for 10 deliveries, Peterson bowled a ball away from the batter. Babar half-heartedly threw his bat on the ball and edged it, getting caught behind by Aiden Markram on the second slip.

Saud Shakeel then became Bosch’s second wicket as Mohammad Rizwan’s men fell to 56/4. Speaking of the captain, he, along with Kamran Ghulam, then worked to save this inning, stitching together an 81-run partnership before Ghulam got out after scoring a half-century. Rizwan followed suit shortly after at 27. Both of these men were dismissed by Peterson.

Pakistan had reached a respectable total, having crossed the 150-run mark on this pacer-friendly wicket. The seventh wicket fell when Salman Ali Agha became Dane Peterson’s fifth wicket at 187. This is his first fifer in his short Test career of seven matches.

Two more wickets fell at the same score, as Aamir Jamal was bowled by Corbin Bosch and Naseem Shah got out for a duck. Bosch got to four wickets in this inning with one wicket to go.

With another bowler nearing his fifer, that too on his debut, Peterson, who came back to bowl, bowled all his deliveries away from the batter’s reach, trying not to take another wicket.

However, for the next couple of overs, no wickets fell. To add salt to the wound, tailender Khurram Shahzad scored a few boundaries to take Pakistan past 200 runs. After adding 20 runs with the 10th wicket partnership, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas took the game to tea, with the score being 209/9.
