Dangerous in look and heavier than Thar; Check out the Chery iCar V25! Likely to hit the market soon
Chinese automaker Chery has introduced the new iCar V25, expanding its off-road SUV segment under its iCar brand. Positioned between the compact V23 and the flagship V27, this new hybrid SUV gets REEV technology, larger size, LiDAR support and a towing capacity of around 1,800 kg. Where India is dominated by off-roading cars like the Mahindra Thar; There, it is predicted that the icar will compete with the India-based off-roading car V25.
Prospects and Competition in India
Chinese carmaker Chery has already filed patents for cars like iCar V23, Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5 and Jaecoo J7 in India. It is highly likely that these trains will be launched in India under JSW’s separate venture, which could start with ‘Jetour T2’ later this year. Due to this, the iCar V25 may also enter India in the future. If it comes to India, it will surely challenge the likes of Mahindra Thar and Jeep as a premium option.

Attractive design and large size
The new V25 retains its old boxy look, but in terms of size, it has grown considerably. It measures 4,636 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,855 mm in height and 2,820 mm in wheelbase. The front gets new headlights with ‘half-circle’ LED DRLs, a new rectangular front grille and stronger bumper cladding for an off-road look. Customers will also get a choice of 19-inch and 21-inch alloy wheels.
REEV engine, Range and Performance
Unlike the all-electric V23, the new V25 uses a REEV (Range-Extended Electric Vehicle) system. It has a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 156 PS of power. The engine does not directly turn the wheels, but acts as a ‘generator’ to charge the 33.68 kWh battery pack, and the car is powered by an actual electric motor. The car offers an electric range of 145 to 150 km on battery power alone and has a top speed of 180 km per hour.

Weight pulling capacity and high-tech features

In terms of technology, the car has become more premium with a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof of the car, which works for advanced driver assistance ADAS features. The system is paired with China’s advanced Horizon Journey 6 chips for faster processing.
