Dangerous level of air pollution in Delhi-NCR: Hearing to be held in Supreme Court on December 17

New Delhi, 15 December. Expressing deep concern over the dangerous levels of air pollution in the national capital Delhi and the entire National Capital Region (NCR), the Supreme Court clearly said that now there is a need to give such orders which can be strictly followed. CJI Surya Kant said on Monday that this matter will be placed before a bench of three judges on Wednesday, December 17 so that practical and concrete orders can be given on it.

Meanwhile, countries like Britain, Canada and Singapore have issued travel warnings to their citizens regarding the deteriorating air quality index (AQI) in Delhi-NCR. The warning comes at a time when the air quality situation in Delhi remains hazardous, with Anand Vihar recording an AQI of 493, placing it in the ‘severe’ category.

Singapore High Commission issued statement

The Singapore High Commission in New Delhi has issued an advisory to its citizens to keep an eye on the status of their flights as many flights have been canceled due to dense fog in major cities of North India. Issuing a statement, the Singapore High Commission said that in view of the implementation of the fourth phase of the Phased Response Action Plan by the Indian Central Pollution Control Board, the Singapore High Commission has issued the following advisory for Singapore citizens residing in Delhi NCR.

Earlier, Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office had said that pregnant women and people suffering from heart or respiratory diseases should consult a doctor before traveling to India. ‘Severe air pollution is a major health threat, especially in the winter months from October to February,’ the advisory said. North Indian cities are most affected by excessive pollution.

It further says, ‘Children, the elderly and people with pre-existing medical conditions may be particularly affected. If you are pregnant or have any respiratory or heart-related problems, it would be better to consult a doctor before travelling.’
