Daniil Medvedev reaches Indian Wells Open final, defeats Carlos Alcaraz; There will be a title match with Sinner

Indian Wells Open: Daniil Medvedev has performed brilliantly and made it to the finals of the Indian Wells Open. In the semi-finals, Medvedev defeated world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6 (3) to reach the final. This was Alcaraz’s first defeat after winning 16 consecutive matches in 2026.

Medvedev has made his first ATP Masters 1000 final since the 2024 Indian Wells Championship match. Medvedev entered the match with aggression. Controlled rallies with accurate groundstrokes and consistent serving. Broke Alcaraz’s serve in the opening set and maintained the pressure with deep returns and solid baseline play.

Medvedev kept himself calm under pressure

Alcaraz had defeated Medvedev in the Indian Wells finals in both 2023 and 2024. But this time Medvedev handled the pressure well and kept his cool. Which proved beneficial for him. Facing two set points at 4-5, the Russian served strong and forced mistakes from the Spaniard, eventually taking the set to a tie-break. Medvedev maintained his pace. He converted both the break opportunities he created and won four out of the five break points he faced. He also dominated behind his second serve, winning 74 percent of those points.

A challenge to face Alcaraz

After the win, Medvedev said that facing Carlos Alcaraz is a challenge. The result gave Medvedev his tour-leading 18th win this season. He has reached his third final of the year. Medvedev, 30, has already won titles at the Brisbane International and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in 2026. He would like to further extend his perfect record in the finals this season.
