Speaking to Sky Sports, Lehmann shared his thoughts on England’s coaching search and made it clear that he has not been approached for the position, although he has been coaching in county cricket.
“I’m very happy to be coaching Northants and I haven’t had any phone calls. You’ll certainly hear that. I’m sure there are a number of applicants. My feeling is they’ve already made up their minds. If you sack someone in mid-summer, you’ll have someone’s name,” Lehman said.
Although Lehmann admitted that he had no inside knowledge of the ECB’s plans, he suggested that the timing of McCullum’s departure was an indication that the board had likely already identified a preferred candidate. Lehmann had particular praise for Langer, highlighting the former Australian coach’s experience and leadership qualities.
“If he (Langer) goes for it, he’ll be a really good coach. Whoever takes over, they’ve got some really talented players, I see some good players in the county system,” He added.
