DC to go for Shreyas Iyer in IPL’s mega auction, Owners drop a massive hint
Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) is shrouded in uncertainty as he has opted for the auction instead of accepting the retention offer from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as confirmed by the CEO, Venky Mysore. They want him i.e. Iyer, who is not only a popular middle-order batter but has also led an IPL winning team – a highly marketable player. In fact, reports have indicated that the possible MPL Team for Iyer will be the Delhi Capitals (DC), the same team he captained to an IPL final in 2020.
DC has undergone major transformations, however, this time DCL has released Rishab Pant ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Now, a report by PTI states that DC co-owners GMR Group are interested in bringing Iyer back to Delhi Capitals, and have even promised him captaincy, according to an IPL franchise official.
Fewest auctions: Rs 73 crore, hence Delhi Capitals are placed third in the auction purse which means they also can go all the way spending on Iyer if need be.
Iyer was the champion of IPL 2024 season leading his side KKR but KKR CEO Venky Mysore announced that player and franchise failed to come to terms. The team will not be able to afford him at the Ryder Cup, said Mr. Iyer, who is going to the tournament to test his worth.
“There won’t be many teams that would want Iyer the T20 batter but just to ensure DC spends a bomb on a player, they might engage in a bidding war for Iyer,” an IPL franchise official told PTI.
PTI’s report adds that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the franchise which cut him last season, may also look at KL Rahul as a player, even as a potential captain.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings can opt to take back Arshdeep Singh with the Right to Match (RTM) card if his price does not cross Rs 20 crores. Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is believed to be a target for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as they look to replace KL Rahul.
