Sameer Rizvi Ensures DC Win Vs MI

Delhi Capitals triumphed against the Mumbai Indians in the first match of a double header on Saturday in IPL 2026, off the back of a tremendous batting performance by Sameer Rizvi.

The DC vs MI game was match 8 of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League. The match was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and saw the home side win the toss and decide to bat first on a pitch that provided some challenge to the batters.

DC Vs MI IPL 2026: Sameer Rizvi Ensures DC Win Vs Mumbai Indians

The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton for the Mumbai Indians, the pair that performed spectacularly for the team in their previous game, did not click today, as Rickelton was out in the third over by Mukesh Kumar for nine off 11.

Tilak Verma, who came to bat at No. 3, was out for a duck in the same over, a couple of balls later. The Indians stabilised in the second half of the power play, being at 41/2 at the sixth over mark.

A fine partnership between Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav, MI’s stand-in captain for today, ended in the 10th over when Sharma fell to opposition captain Axar Patel after making 35 off 26. Sherfane Rutherford departed a couple of overs later for five off seven, being dismissed by Vipraj Nigam.

Suryakumar, after anchoring the innings for about 13 overs and making about half of his team’s runs for that period, exited in the 16th over, caught before the wicket by Lungi Ngidi, before making 51 off 36.

Naman Dhir made 28 off 21, while a late 18 off 13 by Mitchell Santner and a four-ball 11 by Corbin Bosch took MI to a total of 162/6 in 20 overs, which seemed like a respectable total on this pitch.

What seemed like a chasable total on paper for the Capitals turned into a nightmare when, in the first over, after making just a single run, star batter KL Rahul was dismissed by Deepak Chahar.

Nitish Rana walked in to bat at No. 3, played three balls, made no runs, and was run out in the second over for a duck.

At 7/2 in the second over, the Delhi Capitals were in desperate need of a partnership, which was formed by opener Pathum Nissanka and Impact Player Sameer Rizvi, who came in to bat at No. 4.

For the next eight overs, the two batted well and scored 66 runs together, while Nisasnka took charge of keeping the run rate to where it should be. Meanwhile, Rizvi took his time to settle in on the pitch.

Nissanka was dismissed in the 10th over by Mitchell Santner for 44 off 30, bringing David Miller to the strike.

From this point on, Miller played the supporting role, while the youngster on the other end of the pitch started hitting it big. Rizvi reached his half-century a couple of overs later. From 25 to 23 to 50 in 31 deliveries.

The way Sameer Rizvi batted in the second half of his inning ensured that DC would win this game comfortably if things went along the way they were going.

And that is exactly what happened: Rizvi batted till the 17th over, at which point he was dismissed by Corbin Bosch after making 90 off 51. With 11 runs required in the final four overs, David Miller finished the job at the start of the 19th over, with six wickets and 11 balls to spare.

For his excellent performance with the bat and a match-winning inning, Sameer Rizvi was named the Player of the Match.

With the win in this DC Vs MI match, the Delhi Capitals have registered wins in their first two games of the season and now sit at the top of the league table. The Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have won one, lost one, and are sixth on the points table.
