De Kock’s Assault Sets Up South Africa’s 51-Run Victory at Mullanpur

A solid knock from Quinton de Kock and a four-wicket haul from Ottneil Baartman have secured a 51-run victory for South Africa in the 2nd T20I played on December 11 at Mullanpur.

By this win, the Proteas levelled 1-1 with three games yet to be played in the T20I series of the South Africa tour of India 2025.

After being invited to bat first, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened the innings while Arsdheep Singh opened the attack.

Varun Chakravarthy provided the first breakthrough, dismissing Hendricks for 8 runs. However, making a mini partnership with Markram, Quinton de Kock went on to smash fifty as the duo added 83 runs for the second wicket.

Varun bagged his second wicket, dismissing Markram for 29 runs. In the meantime, Quinton de Kock went on to score 90 runs before being dismissed on a runout. His 90-run knock off 46 deliveries, which included 5 fours and 7 sixes.

With Dewald Brevis adding 14 runs to the scoreboard, Donovan Ferreira and David Miller added 30* and 20* as South Africa scored 213 runs in their 20-over innings.

Varun Chakravarthy bagged two wickets, while Axar completed his spell with one wicket. Chasing the 214 run target, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings while Ngidi opened the bowling attack.

With Ngidi dismissing Shubman Gill for duck, Abhishek Sharma and Axar Patel added 17 and 21 runs before being sent out by Marco Jansen and Ottenil Baartman. By the end of the power play, India went on to score 51 runs with three wickets.

With Suryakumar Yadav dismissed cheaply, Tilak Varma, along with Hardik Pandya and Jitesh Sharma, added 100+ runs in the middle overs.

Despite Tilak Varma smashing a fifty, he couldn’t get much of a strike as the required run rate went way higher. Hardik Pandya added 20 runs, while Jitesh Sharma added 27 runs.

In the penultimate over, India went on to lose three wickets of Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy, leaving India to their last wicket.

In the final over, Tilak Varma lost his wicket for 62 runs as India got bowled out for 162 runs.

Ottneil Baartman picked four wickets while Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Lutho Sipamla all completed with two wickets. The next match will be played on December 14 at HPCA Stadium, Chellan.
