Deadlock continues in Lok Sabha on LPG, opposition MPs raised slogans of ‘Modi ji, LPG’…Proceedings adjourned

New Delhi. Members of the Congress and several other opposition parties created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha on Friday over the issue of LPG shortage in the country, due to which the House was adjourned till 2 pm after a single adjournment. When the proceedings of the House started at 12 noon after a one-time adjournment, the opposition members reached near the chair raising slogans. They raised slogans of ‘Modi ji, LPG’.

Presiding Speaker Sandhya Rai got the necessary documents placed on the table of the House amid the noise. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that in the Business Advisory Committee meeting, the Lok Sabha Speaker had said that the House should run properly, but “Congress leaders and its MPs are not improving.” He said, “Today non-government work has to be done. This is not the government’s work, but the members’ work. If the Congress leader (Rahul Gandhi) is not improving then the MPs are also not improving.”

Rijiju claimed that the opposition leaders are doing drama in the Parliament premises with glasses and plates to attract the public’s attention, but the public is watching. He said that these people cannot come to power by doing this. He said, “If there is no one left in Congress then let their leader understand. All the people of Congress have gone wrong with their leader.” Sandhya Rai appealed to the opposition members to allow the House to function. He said, “Let the House function. The people of the country are watching. This is not good for the dignity of democracy.” When the uproar did not stop, he adjourned the House meeting at 12:09 pm till 2 pm.

Earlier, even at 11 am on Friday, Congress and opposition members created a ruckus over the issue of alleged shortage of LPG gas in the country, due to which the House meeting was adjourned till 12 noon, about three minutes after its commencement. As soon as the House proceedings began, Speaker Om Birla started the Question Hour. Meanwhile, Congress members were standing at their places raising the issue of alleged shortage of LPG gas in the country. Congress leader KC Venugopal was heard saying that an adjournment motion notice would be given on this issue. Birla said that Question Hour is the most important time of the House and even today questions of eight opposition MPs have been listed.

He said that in Question Hour, where the issues of the country and the problems of the regions are raised, the accountability of the government is also decided. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha urged the agitating opposition MPs to allow the Question Hour to continue and said, “You say that you do not get an opportunity to speak. When you are given time and opportunity to speak, you do not want to speak, you want to create a deadlock in the House, which is not in accordance with parliamentary norms.”

He said that if members want to raise any issue after the Question Hour, they can raise it. Birla also said, “I am making another request, whether inside the Parliament or outside the Parliament premises, it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain its sanctity, dignity and prestige. With the kind of conduct and behavior you are doing, you are destroying the sanctity of the House.” When opposition MPs raised the issue of suspension of their eight colleagues, the Speaker said, “If you climb on the tables of the House, the same action will be taken. This is clear.” When the uproar did not stop, he adjourned the proceedings till 12 noon after about three minutes.
