Death anniversary special: Indira Gandhi had a sense of death even before the assassination, yet why did she not change the bodyguard? Know the reason
Obnews Desk: People die but their personality lives on. Life ends, but thoughts never end. 31 October 1984 is a dark day in history when the country's powerful Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was martyred. That day, Indira's body, burnt by the bullets of pro-Khalistani terrorists, was burnt to ashes in the pyre, but what Indira wrote on the pages of history will remain eternal for centuries.
The country is celebrating the 40th death anniversary of Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi alias Indira Gandhi today i.e. Thursday 31st October. On this occasion, we have brought for you two interesting stories related to his life. Imagine what it was like that Indira often talked about her death. Can anyone recognize the sound of death while alive? If yes then Indira too had probably heard that sound.
Used to mention death to close friends
After Operation Blue Star, intelligence agencies informed Indira Gandhi that her life was in danger. After this, all the Sikh security guards deployed for his protection were removed. But Indira Gandhi said that for her people of all religions are equal and she respects every religion, hence she is not in danger from anyone. After this all the security guards were called back, but from that day onwards a restlessness was visible on Indira Gandhi's face. She began discussing his death frequently with a few close friends in her home.
Gave a timeless speech a day earlier
Just a day before the assassination, on 30 October 1984, Indira Gandhi had said in her speech in Bhubaneswar that 'Whether I live or not, every drop of my blood will strengthen a new India.' The very next day Beant Singh and Satwant Singh shot Indira Gandhi with bullets. Indira Gandhi's soul flew away like a bird, but the mark that Indira Gandhi left on politics is immortal even today. It is said that the body dies but the soul becomes immortal.

Jawaharlal Nehru and his wife Kamala Nehru, who adopted vegetarianism under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi, wanted their daughter Indira Gandhi to also become a vegetarian. But an incident that happened with Indira Gandhi did not allow the Nehru couple's wish to be fulfilled. Referring to that incident in her memoir 'Bachpan ke Din', Indira Gandhi wrote, “Influenced by Gandhiji, my parents stopped eating meat and it was decided that I would also be made a vegetarian.
How did Indira become a non-vegetarian?
Indira has written that since I used to eat food before the elders, I did not know that their food was different from my food. One day I went to my friend Leela's house to play and she asked me to stay for lunch. Meat was served at dinner. The next time my grandmother asked me what to order for me, I told her about the delicious new vegetable I had at Leela's house. Indira ji has written that grandmother took the names of all the vegetables but no such vegetable was served in our house. Finally this puzzle was solved by calling Leela's mother. With this my vegetarian diet also ended.”
