Debendra Sutar Honored with Dr Narendra Dabholkar Memorial Award 2024 | Read

Renowned social reformer and rationalist Debendra Sutar of Odisha has been conferred with the prestigious Dr Narendra Dabholkar Memorial Award for 2024.


Instituted in memory of Maharashtra-based rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar, who was tragically assassinated for his progressive work, the award is a testament to individuals and organizations working tirelessly to promote rationalism, scientific temper, and social justice.

The award, established by the US-based Maharashtra Foundation, carries a cash prize of ₹1 lakh and a citation. It is presented annually to honour those who have made significant contributions to societal reform. Past recipients of this coveted award include Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, All India People’s Science Network, and Tamil Nadu-based reformer Dr K. Veeramani, Chancellor of Periyar Maniammai Institute of Technology.

Debendra Sutar has dedicated over four decades of his life to combating blind beliefs, promoting scientific temper, and advocating for social justice. His relentless efforts have brought about positive societal changes in Odisha and beyond, making him a deserving recipient of this honour.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on 18th January 2025 at the prestigious S.M. Joshi Auditorium in Pune, with a grand celebration befitting the occasion.

This recognition highlights Sutar’s lifelong dedication to the cause of rationalism and reform, resonating with Dr Dabholkar’s vision of a progressive and scientific society.
