Deceased techie Atul Subhash’s wife Nikita Singhania called him ‘beast’ in her complaint

Nikita Singhania, the wife of deceased techie Atul Subhash, alleged in her police complaint that Subhash subjected her to mental and physical torture seeking a dowry of Rs 10 lakh. She said the constant demand for money worsened her father’s health, following which he passed away in 2019.

Singhania, a Delhi-based AI engineer who works as a senior consultant with Accenture, said in her complaint that the marriage happened on April 26, 2019. Soon after the marriage, her in-laws began demanding a dowry of Rs 10 lakh.

Though she informed her parents of the torture, they urged her to forgive and adjust to the new situation. However, Subhash’s family continued to seek money. She alleged that Atul began treating their marital relationship like a beast and also transferred her salary to his bank account.

The continued distress over the dowry demands affected her father’s health, Singhania alleged, leading to him suffering a stroke. He passed away on August 17, 2019, while undergoing treatment.

However, Subhash had in his suicide note termed the allegations unfounded. He said he had Rs 80 lakhs as annual income and the dowry accusations were laughable. “My wife has claimed that I had a CTC of Rs 40 lakhs when she left the house. My wife also claimed that I have a CTC of Rs 80 lakhs later. Why would a man making Rs 40 or 80 lakhs would ever demand Rs 10 lakhs and leave his wife and child,” Subhash penned in his note.

He alleged that the accusation that their dowry demands caused  Singhania’s father’s death was a “poor Bollywood plot” as she had already told the court in her cross-examination that her father suffered from a long-term illness. ” Her father was getting treated by AIIMS for the last 10 years for heart disease, diabetes etc. Doctors gave him a few months and hence we got married quickly just a few months after getting connected,” Subhash said in his note.

As per reports, Singhania had filed nine cases against Subhash, including dowry charges.

Subhash’s brother Bikas Kumar, who filed a complaint against Singhania, alleged that she sought Rs 3 crore to settle ongoing legal cases against him and to enable visitation rights.

After Atul’s death triggered an uproar, Singhania’s uncle Sushil Singhania told reporters that he had no involvement in the suicide case and hadn’t met Atul in the past three years. Expressing regret over the suicide, Sushil said Nikita would answer all the queries put forth.

“We will come out with all the proof soon. We have done nothing wrong,” Sushil added.

An FIR filed in connection with Subhash’s death names Nikita Singhania, Sushil Singhania, Nikita’s mother Nisha and brother Anurag. They have been charged with abetment to suicide and joint criminal liability.
