Decision to remove KL Rahul from opening: There can be a big change in the Boxing Day Test

Recently a news has come that KL Rahul will not open in the Boxing Day Test match to be played in Melbourne. If this turns out to be true then there may be some changes in the team. According to reports, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings instead of Rahul in Melbourne. At the same time, KL Rahul may get a chance to bat at number 3.

Will Rahul play at number 3 in place of Gill?

Till now Shubman Gill was batting at number 3 during the Australia tour. If Rahul plays at number 3, Gill may have to leave his position. It is possible that Gill will now bat at number 4. However, the biggest impact will be on KL Rahul because he will play a new role apart from opening.

KL Rahul's brilliant performance in the opening

KL Rahul opened in the first three Test matches on the Australia tour and performed brilliantly. In these three matches, he has scored 235 runs in 6 innings at an average of 47. He is the highest run scorer for India in this series. Overall, he is the second highest run scorer in this series, after Travis Head.

KL Rahul's record at number 3

Now there are reports that Rahul will bat at number 3 in the Boxing Day Test. Let us know what has been his record in this position. Rahul has so far played 5 innings at number 3, in which his average has been 17.60 and he has scored a total of 88 runs. These are the worst figures on his top order. Apart from this, Rahul last batted in this position 6 years ago i.e. in 2018.

Is this the right decision?

Changing Rahul's position could be a risk after his good opening performance on the Australia tour. Seeing his success in the opening, Team India may need to rethink the decision of changing his batting order. However, all this is based only on media reports, and it is yet to be officially confirmed.
