Need for central grant for rural development in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh met Union Panchayati Raj Minister Lalan Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday. During this meeting, he demanded immediate release of the pending grant amount under the 15th Finance Commission. The minister said that the lack of funds is having a negative impact on the progress of panchayats and rural development works in the state.

Deepika Pandey Singh further said that a total provision of Rs 2736 crore has been made to Jharkhand under the 15th Finance Commission for 2024-25 and 2025-26, which includes Rs 1094.40 crore as untied grant and Rs 1641.60 crore as tied grant. However, no amount has been released so far under any head for both the years. He also said that by getting the funds on time, the Panchayats will be able to get the necessary financial resources for the schemes.

Necessary Procedural Information

The Minister requested the Central Government to clearly make available to the State all necessary conditions and procedures at the beginning of the financial year. This will not cause any delay in transfer of funds. Deepika Pandey also said that timely fund transfer is important for the implementation of the schemes.

Recently, there was a heated debate in the Jharkhand Assembly between the ruling party and the opposition regarding Centre-State funds. During this, the minister alleged that the Union Minister is not giving time to meet and the funds of the 15th Finance Commission are being withheld. This meeting is being considered important, which is expected to give further momentum to farmers and rural development schemes.

Senior BJP leaders also met the Union Panchayati Raj Minister. Other leaders also participated in the meeting under the leadership of party president Babulal Marandi.

Congress minister Chamra Linda raised the issue of pending scholarships for former SC and OBC students from the Centre. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale directed to release the outstanding amount soon, which has increased the chances of students getting relief.
