Team India’s ‘Wicket Queen’ Deepti Sharma created history, became the bowler taking the highest wicket in T20I cricket.

Indian women’s cricket star all-rounder Deepti Sharma has once again created history. In the fifth T20 International match played against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday (30 December), Deepti achieved a milestone which no player had been able to reach till date.

In this match, Deepti Sharma left behind Australia’s legendary bowler Megan Schutt (151 wickets) by taking her 152nd T20I wicket and became the highest wicket-taker so far in T20 International cricket. India won the match by 15 runs and whitewashed Sri Lanka 5-0 in the home series.

Historic moment created in Greenfield

Chasing the target of 176 runs, the Sri Lankan team could reach only 160/7. During this, Deepti Sharma made history by taking the wicket of Nilakshika Silva. This wicket not only got recorded in the record books, but also became the foundation of India’s decisive victory.

1000 runs + 150 wickets: Deepti made the impossible possible

Earlier, in the third T20 match of the series, Deepti Sharma had done another unique feat by equalizing Megan Schutt. She became the first player (male or female) in T20 International history to take more than 1000 runs and more than 150 wickets.

Deepti achieved this feat by dismissing Kavisha Dilhari in the third T20. His excellent figures in that match were 3 wickets and 18 runs. With this performance, Deepti also made a huge leap in the international wicket chart, surpassing Australia’s great all-rounder Ellyse Perry. Now Deepti has 334 wickets in her name in 273 matches.

There are only two players ahead of her in this list – Nat Sciver-Brunt (England) – 335 wickets, Jhulan Goswami (India) – 355 wickets (on top) Deepti dominates in ODI and Test also.
