Ignoring warnings, Randeep Hooda made the unheard story of the film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’
Before making this film, many people had warned Randeep Hooda not to be a part of such a sensitive and historical film as it could have a negative impact on his career. Many well-wishers advised him to leave this film but Randeep, ignoring all these warnings, decided to make it and took charge of the project himself.
Randeep Hooda worked extremely hard to bring the story of the film alive on screen. He lost 32 kg of weight to get into the character of Veer Savarkar and also tried to adapt himself mentally to the circumstances of that period. To understand the situation of Savarkar during the Kala Pani sentence, he started keeping himself locked in a dark room and ate food only once a day so that he could feel the depth of the character.
During the research for the film, Randeep found that there was very little information available in English literature about Savarkar, hence he studied various books and sources and prepared a basic script, however, to prepare the complete script and dialogues, he along with his co-writer wrote the entire script in just three days, during which they worked 12-12 hours continuously.
To complete this project, Randeep Hooda not only invested his hard work but also a part of his personal wealth. This shows his dedication and passion. What many people are not aware of is that during the making of the film, he did not even get the expected support from the Bollywood industry.
Some creative differences also came to light regarding the film, due to which director Mahesh Manjrekar left the project midway, after which Randeep himself took the responsibility of directing the film and completed it.
After the release of the film, it remained in controversies and its box office performance was also not as expected but despite this, the film became a symbol of Randeep Hooda’s courage and dedication which shows how far an artist can go for his passion.
