Dehradun: Army officer’s son murdered, accused shot in legs in encounter; Know the updates till now

Dehradun The entire city is horrified by the murder of a gas agency operator. Now in this case, there was an encounter between the police and the accused at two different places on Thursday morning. The police have arrested both the accused of murder. During the encounter, both of them were shot in the leg, after which they were admitted to the hospital.

Actually, Bharat Gas Agency operator Arjun Sharma was shot by scooty riding scoundrels outside the Tibetan Market in Dehradun. According to the police, Arjun Sharma’s age is said to be between 40 and 42 years. After the incident, a large scale blockade and intensive investigation campaign was conducted in the district.

How did the encounter happen between the killers and the police?

On the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh, the checking campaign was intensified from the city to the rural areas. An attempt was made to stop a suspect during the blockade in Ladpur of Raipur area. During this the accused opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the police shot him in the leg and he was arrested and sent to the hospital.

The second encounter took place in Laltappar area. When another accused riding a scooter tried to be stopped, he ran away and entered a ruined factory and fired at the police from there. He was also shot in the leg in police retaliatory firing. He was also arrested and admitted to the hospital.

What did Dehradun police say?

Dehradun Superintendent of Police (City) Pramod Kumar said that both the accused have been arrested from different places after encounters. The arrested accused have been identified as Rajeev Rana and Pankaj Rana, who are brothers. According to the police, both of them admitted to killing Arjun Sharma during interrogation. His interrogation is going on to know the reason behind the murder.

What has been lost from the scoundrels?

Police have recovered two country-made pistols and a scooter from the accused. Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh reached the hospital and took information about the entire incident from the officials. Further investigation is being done in the matter.

Who were the arrested criminals?

According to police sources, during preliminary interrogation, the arrested accused have claimed that a deal between Rs 12 to 15 lakh was fixed for the murder. However, officials have made it clear that any official confirmation in this regard will be made only after the detailed investigation is completed. Sources also say that Raju Rana works as an e-rickshaw driver and has a criminal record. In the year 1997, he had also gone to jail in the case of murder of his stepfather.

Who was Arjun Sharma?

Arjun Sharma was not just a businessman but also belonged to a martyr family. His father Colonel RC Sharma was martyred while on duty in Meerut in 1986. After the martyrdom of his father, the government had allotted the gas agency to his wife Beena Sharma. With time, the operation of this agency was taken over by his son Arjun Sharma and he was looking after its functioning.

Even on Wednesday morning, Arjun’s day had started normally. At around 10:30 in the morning, he was returning after playing tennis at the parade ground. Before going home, he stopped near the Tibetan market and bought fruits. After this he was moving towards his car. During that time he was attacked and shot.
