Police statement on racial angle in Angel Chakma murder case, know how far the investigation reached

Tripura Student Murder: Police has given a big statement in the case of murder of 24 year old Tripura student Angel Chakma in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Police said on Monday that in the investigation so far, no evidence has been found of any kind of racial or color-based reason behind this murder. The police also clarified that one of the five arrested accused is a resident of Manipur, which raises questions on the allegations of racial attack.

What did the investigating officer say about the incident?

Police investigating officer PD Bhatt told the media that in this case the claim that Angel Chakma was given racial remarks or abuses before the murder has not been found to be true. He said that at present no concrete evidence has emerged in the investigation that links this incident to racism. According to the police, the incident started with a simple dispute, which later turned violent.

How did the attack happen?

Bhatt told that the attack on Angel Chakma took place near a liquor shop. At that time the accused named Suraj, who is a resident of Manipur, was celebrating his son’s birthday. Meanwhile, Angel Chakma and his brother Michael also came to buy liquor from the same shop. There was an argument between the two parties over some issue, which gradually turned into a fight. During this fight, Angel was attacked, due to which he died.

What is Angel’s brother’s allegation?

At the same time, Angel’s brother Michael alleges that on December 9, when he had gone out to buy groceries, some drunk people fought with him, used racial abuses and attacked Angel with a knife. Critically injured Angel was taken to hospital, where he died on December 26.

One accused is still absconding in the case

Police said that a sixth accused in this case is still absconding, who is said to be a resident of Nepal. Police teams have been sent to Nepal to arrest him. Police say that it is not yet clear who attacked with the knife. The arrested accused are accusing the absconding accused of attacking him. Police also said that two of the arrested accused are minors and none of them have any criminal record. The investigation of the case is still going on.
