Special initiative to control pollution started, army of experts ready; constituted a committee
Delhi Air Pollution Control: The Delhi government has taken a big step to deal with the increasingly serious air pollution in Delhi. The government has constituted an independent expert committee for a permanent and effective solution to the problem of air pollution. The objective of this committee is to give impartial, scientific and practical suggestions to the government, so that pollution control measures are not limited to papers only, but have an impact on the ground.
What is this committee like?
The government believes that when there is direct participation of the country’s renowned experts in policy making, the solutions will be more effective. A total of 11 members have been included in this expert committee formed under this thinking. Secretaries of environment and forest departments, representatives of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), former chairman of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) as well as experts from prestigious institutes like IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi have also been included in the committee.
what else is special
Not limited to just giving suggestions, the government has also constituted an Air Pollution Control Implementation Committee (ICCAP) for speedy implementation of these recommendations. This committee will ensure that the recommendations of experts and government schemes are implemented in a timely manner.
These senior officers are involved
ICCAP consists of 16 senior officers. These include officers holding important positions like Chief Secretary of Delhi, Commissioner of Delhi Municipal Corporation, Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority, NDMC Chairman, CEO of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Work will be done on many fronts
According to officials, the government will work on many fronts to control pollution. This includes promoting innovation, scientific management of dust and solid waste, strict action against polluting industries, reducing vehicular emissions and making Delhi greener. Special focus will be given especially on the pollution caused by vehicles, because it is a major reason for spoiling the air of Delhi.
