Delhi Capitals aim to bring back Shreyas Iyer as captain in IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals are unlikely to retain Rishabh Pant ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. He is heading out of the franchise despite leading them in the previous season. All the franchises will submit the list of their retained players by October 31, 2024.
Pant has been playing for DC since 2016. He was bought for INR 1.90 crore after Delhi won the bidding war against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians. In 2018, he won the Emerging Player of the Year award.
Rishabh Pant has gone on to play for India across formats and become a vital member of the Delhi Capitals.
The southpaw was handed the captain’s armband in 2021, but he missed the tournament in 2023 due to a fatal car accident. Pant returned to the team in the 17th season and was immediately given the leadership role.
Rishabh will now enter the auction pool as his nine-year partnership with Delhi has come to an end. According to the Times of India, Delhi are aiming to buy Shreyas Iyer, their former player and captain.
Kolkata Knight Riders will release Iyer despite leading them to success in IPL 2024. He was getting INR 12.60 crore but wanted a better deal after KKR won the title. However, the team management and the owners did not entertain his request.
Shreyas has led Delhi Capitals in the past, and now the owners have set their eyes on the player. The team has retained Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel.
