Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets, Akshar said, ‘I am happy with the bowling unit’
Lucknow: Delhi Capitals (DC) started the IPL 2026 season with an impressive win by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets on Wednesday. The match was played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, and Delhi captain Axar Patel said after the match that he was ‘very happy’ with his bowling unit.
Lucknow Super Giants were invited to bat first, but LSG were all out for just 141 runs, with Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan taking three wickets each. After this, with the help of Sameer Rizvi’s 70 runs, Delhi Capitals comfortably achieved the target and started their campaign in this season of IPL with two points.
Axar Patel said after the match, “The match ended quickly, but it became very close in the middle. We just needed a partnership, and that’s what we said during the break. Very happy with the bowling effort. When we came to bowl, we knew there was some help for the bowlers, and we conveyed this to all the bowlers.”
About the player of the match, Sameer Rizvi, Akshar Patel said, “Our plan was to play Rizvi, but there was also the option of Ashutosh Sharma. Last year Ashu did well in the first match, and this time Rizvi did well. He works hard on his game and always asks how he can improve himself.”
Rizvi scored 70 runs on 47 balls as Delhi team achieved the target of 142 runs with 6 wickets and 17 balls remaining.
“The best way to get over it is to ignore it (about his unfortunate run-out). I think that’s the best way because there are some things you can’t control,” Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant said after the match loss.
Pant said about sending Badoni first in the batting order, “Our idea was very simple. He is no longer batting in the top order because I am batting higher. So we thought of making a combination of left and right-handed batsman, so that they cannot use the left-arm spinner. Unfortunately, I got out at the wrong time.”
Rishabh Pant also said that he will continue to bat in the top order in the upcoming matches, and the decision regarding opening will be 50-50.
Delhi Capitals have now made it five consecutive wins in the IPL against Lucknow Super Giants, and are the third team against whom DC has achieved such a record. Earlier, they had also achieved a five-match winning record against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
