Delhi Capitals played worse than CSK, made the most shameful record of IPL

Delhi Capitals (DC) scored the highest score of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on 25 April. With the help of KL Rahul’s unbeaten inning of 152 runs, DC put 264 runs on the board. However, in the end these runs also proved insufficient. Punjab Kings (PBKS) achieved this target in just 18.5 overs. In its next match, DC was reduced to just 75 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

After two crushing defeats in two consecutive matches, DC made a strong comeback on May 1 and executed a record chase of 226 runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR). It seemed that DC’s batsmen would not look back from here but they failed again in the next two matches. On Tuesday (May 5), DC could score only 157 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). After this, he scored only 142 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday (8 May). DC’s poor batting in this match was such that the most shameful record of IPL was added to its name.

DC made a shameful record

When invited to bat first against KKR, DC scored 74 runs in 7.5 overs after losing the wicket of KL Rahul. Pathum Nissanka was frozen at the crease, due to which DC seemed to be moving towards a challenging score but suddenly their innings fell apart and within no time their score became 89/5. Set batsman Nissanka (50 runs in 29 balls) including Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs had all returned to the pavilion. From here, captain Akshar Patel along with Ashutosh Sharma took the responsibility of getting the team out of trouble but both of them batted very slowly.

Due to the defensive attitude of Akshar and Ashutosh, DC could score only 11 runs between 12 and 16 overs. DC did not lose any wicket during this period but Akshar-Ashutosh failed to score runs quickly, due to which DC became the team scoring the least runs in this phase of an IPL innings. Earlier this shameful record was in the name of CSK. He scored 12 runs in 12-16 overs against KKR in Chepauk last year. CSK had also lost 4 wickets during this period.

DC lost badly

Ashutosh changed gears in the last overs but by then it was too late. He scored 39 runs in 28 balls before getting out in the 20th over. Whereas Akshar could only add 11 runs after playing 22 balls. DC set a small target of 143 runs for KKR, which it achieved in just 14.2 overs with the help of a blazing century by Finn Allen (100 not out in 47 balls). With this defeat, DC is almost out of the race for the playoffs.
