Delhi Capitals to retain these players ahead of the IPL auction: Reports

Delhi Capitals is likely to opt for three retentions ahead of 2025 Indian Premier League – captain Rishabh Pant (18 crores), all-rounder Axar Patel (Rupees 14 crores) and left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (Rupees 11 crores). , shared a report by PTI.

In view of the five retentions costing Rs 75 crore, it is understood that Jake-Fraser McGurk, who was the breakout player in the last season, and also Tristan Stubbs, among their important overseas players, will be retained using the Right To Match (RTM) clauses.

The former left-handed batsman of India, Hemang Badani is turning out to be favorite for the position of chief coach for the Delhi Capitals Franchise; meanwhile, pacer Munaf Patel’s name is making rounds for inclusion in the support staff of the franchise.

Furthermore, DC had also recently removed Ricky Ponting from the position of head coach given the issue of his availability. Ponting has been a part of the team since 2018.

“DC management is looking at quality home-grown coaches and Hemang and Munaf’s names have cropped up. A final decision is yet to be taken but in case of Munaf, it could be an issue of bowling coach,” the source said on the condition of anonymity.

The mention of Badani as the head coach can probably be seen as an internal reshuffling of the management which will last for the next two years under GMR, one of the co-owners while the other co-owner happens to be JSW.

The two parties sharing ownership, it is believed, developed an understanding of overseeing the operations in a very hands-on manner for a maximum of two years consecutive periods.

Badani has at some point worked under Brian Lara in Sunrisers Hyderabad but if he gets the assignment, it would be an excellent opportunity for him.

The former Tamil Nadu batsman played 4 Test matches and 40 ODIs from 2001-2004, with his hammering an ODI century against Australia during the famous bilateral series in 2001 being the highlight of his career.

He would be envisaged in leading the title starved DC franchise to its inaugural IPL title since the conception of the tournament in the year two thousand and eight

Delhi has progressed to the final only once – that was in 2020 when they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians in the title match.
