Delhi EV Policy 2026: Delhi government released new EV vehicle policy, know how it will benefit the general public

Delhi EV Policy 2026: The BJP ruled government of Delhi has released the proposal for the much awaited new Electric Vehicle Policy (Delhi EV Policy 2026). The general public can give their suggestions on this within 30 days. It is noteworthy that earlier the new electric vehicle policy was implemented in Delhi in August 2020, which was to expire in 2023. Till now the same policy was being expanded. The public will also get many types of concessions in the new policy brought by the government.

Will remain effective till March 2030

Proposing the draft of the EV Policy 2026 in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that this step is an important initiative towards a clean, accessible and sustainable transport system in the capital. This policy will remain effective till 31 March 2030. Under this, special emphasis will be given by the government on financial incentives, tax concessions as well as development of infrastructure to promote electric vehicles.

Benefit of subsidy directly to the beneficiaries

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta informed that under Delhi EV Policy 2026, all purchase incentive related benefits will be given directly to the beneficiaries. This will include individuals, proprietary firms, agencies and companies resident in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. For this, it is mandatory for the vehicle to be registered in Delhi. Beneficiaries will be able to apply for subsidy directly by contacting the Transport Department, GNCTD.

There will be a benefit of Rs 10,000 in the scheme

In this policy, Rs 2.25 lakh has been fixed for two-wheeler electric vehicles. Under this, before the issuance of the notification, there is a provision of maximum incentive amount of Rs 30,000 at the rate of Rs 10,000 per kilowatt hour in the first year, maximum Rs 20,000 at the rate of Rs 6,600 per kilowatt hour in the second year and maximum Rs 10,000 at the rate of Rs 3,300 per kilowatt hour in the third year.

Similarly, to promote three-wheeler electric vehicles, an incentive of Rs 50 thousand will be given in the first year, Rs 40 thousand in the second year and Rs 30 thousand in the third year from the date of notification. Whereas for four-wheeler electric vehicles, an incentive amount of Rs 1,00,000 has been fixed in the first year, Rs 75,000 in the second year and Rs 50,000 in the third year.

No benefits will be available on expensive vehicles

No discount will be given to electric cars worth more than Rs 30 lakh in the policy. The Chief Minister said that under the new policy (Delhi EV Policy 2026), electric vehicles will be given relief in road tax and registration fees. He also said that under this policy, all electric vehicles registered in the National Capital Region of Delhi will get 100 percent discount and strong hybrid vehicles will get 50 percent discount. Electric cars worth up to Rs 30 lakh will benefit from the new policy till March 31, 2030.

Target of 30 percent electric buses by 2030

Proposed Delhi EV Policy 2026 Under this, a target has been set to electrify 30 percent of Delhi’s buses by 2030. Clear provision has also been made for this. This process will be done in a phased manner. Under this, 10 percent buses will be replaced by electric buses by the end of the second year of the notification, 20 percent by the end of the third year and 30 percent by March 31, 2030.
