Delhi government approves Rs 802 crore project for redevelopment of roads, wall-to-wall carpeting will make them pothole free
To make the roads of the capital Delhi pothole free and sustainable, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a comprehensive road improvement project worth Rs 802.18 crore. Under this scheme, more than 241 major roads of Delhi will be redeveloped using advanced technology.
The Chief Minister said that all the roads will be developed under wall-to-wall carpeting model, so that the road construction work does not remain half-finished and uniform quality can be ensured across the entire width. He says that this initiative is an important step towards making the capital safe, well-organized and future-ready.
400 kilometers of roads will be improved in 45 assemblies
Under this scheme, about 400 kilometers of major roads of more than 45 assemblies will be improved. Rekha Gupta explained that often only the middle part of the roads is repaired or patchwork is done where there are potholes, due to which the road deteriorates again after some time.
In the new system, the entire road will be prepared uniformly wall-to-wall, which will increase both its strength and lifespan. By creating a flat and sealed surface across the entire width, there will be a significant reduction in dust and air pollution.
There will be reduction in air pollution
The Chief Minister said that during the movement of vehicles on dilapidated roads, soil and fine particles fly into the air, which become a major cause of pollution. Rebuilding roads will help in reducing the level of particulate matter in the air and will improve the cleanliness and air quality in the surrounding areas.
The total cost of the project is Rs 802.18 crore, of which Rs 643.36 crore will come from the Central Government’s Central Road Infrastructure Fund, while Rs 158.82 crore will be provided by the Delhi government. The Chief Minister said that with the cooperation of the Center and the State, Delhi’s infrastructure is getting new strength.
The work will be completed by the end of the year
The Chief Minister said that a target has been set to complete this entire project by the end of the year. The work will be carried forward in a phased manner so that there is minimal impact on traffic and people are not inconvenienced. This work will be done by the Public Works Department of Delhi Government in about 45 assemblies.
The aim of this project is to provide permanent solutions, not just repairs. All the stages like checking of base layer of the road, strengthening as required, drainage arrangements and final carpeting will be completed as per the technical standards. This will reduce the problem of waterlogging during rainy season and the roads will remain safe for a long time.
Work will be done on these major roads
Among the roads which will be repaired under the scheme, the prominent ones are August Kranti Marg in Malviya Nagar, Outer Ring Road, Rao Tula Ram Marg, Kapashera Bijwasan Road, Najafgarh-Jharauda Road, Captain Gaur Marg in Kalkaji, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg in Greater Kailash.
Apart from this, about 400 kilometers of stretch of different constituencies including Dr. KN Katju Marg in Rohini, Shamnath Marg in Chandni Chowk, DB Gupta Road in Karol Bagh, ESI Hospital Road in Shahdara, Tanga Stand Road in Seemapuri, Preet Vihar Road, Patparganj Road, Khichdipur Road, Khudiram Bose Road, Khajuri Flyover, Gokulpuri Flyover, Zero Pusta Road, Seelampur Road and Loni Road. Long total includes more than 241 major roads.
