Delhi government took steps against pollution, seized more than 2000 vehicles

Obnews Automobile Desk: The level of pollution in Delhi NCR is continuously increasing, due to which people are having trouble breathing. Delhi government has started taking strict steps to deal with this crisis. The Delhi Transport Department has seized 2,234 vehicles in the last one and a half month, in order to control the old and dangerous vehicles causing pollution in the capital.

What were the vehicles seized?

According to PTI report, the Delhi Transport Department seized 260 diesel vehicles out of 2,234 vehicles. These vehicles were more than 10 years old and were increasing the pollution levels. Besides this, 1,156 petrol-powered two-wheelers were also seized. Of these, 818 vehicles were more than 15 years old and were causing heavy pollution.

Reason for seizure of vehicles in Delhi

The seizure of 10 to 15 year old vehicles in Delhi was started from October 1, and till now till November 15, more than 2200 vehicles have been seized. Delhi Transport Department has decided to run this campaign till the end of December. These old vehicles are emitting excessive pollution and harmful gases, making Delhi's air worse. The main objective of the department is to save the environment by removing these vehicles.

What can vehicle owners do?

Delhi Transport Department has also provided the facility to vehicle owners that they can send their old vehicles for scrapping. Apart from this, the department has also started an online portal from where people can send their vehicles for scrapping or sell them. The department says that vehicle owners can easily understand the entire process on this platform.
