Delhi Hauz Rani Fire: A massive fire broke out in Hauz Rani hotel, 10 people burnt to death.

New Delhi. There was an outcry in Delhi’s posh area Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning when a massive fire suddenly broke out in a hotel-restaurant located in Hauz Rani. Within a few minutes, smoke engulfed the entire building and people trapped inside started running towards windows and balconies to save their lives. According to eyewitnesses, the situation was so scary that many people saved their lives by jumping down. This accident has once again raised big questions on the fire safety arrangements in the buildings of the capital. According to initial information, the fire spread so fast that people did not even get a chance to recover. 10 people have been confirmed dead in the accident while many people are said to be injured. The fire brigade personnel who reached the spot brought the fire under control after hours of hard work.

Delhi Fire Service received information about the fire at around 9:105 am. After this, several fire tenders, water cannons and quick response vehicles were immediately sent to the spot. According to officials, the fire broke out in the Lemon Green restaurant in Malviya Nagar, which soon spread to the upper parts. Fire personnel rescued people trapped in many parts including the basement. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital through CATS ambulance. At present, the exact cause of the fire is being investigated, but initial suspicion is that of short circuit.

Somnath Bharti told that the owner of a nearby mattress shop laid mattresses below, with the help of which many people saved their lives by jumping from the upper floors. According to initial information, 20 to 25 people have been injured, while 11 people have died. At present, fire brigade and police teams are present on the spot.

Regarding the massive fire that broke out in the hotel located in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, SDM Jitendra Kumar said that as soon as the information was received, the administration and all the concerned agencies were sent to the spot. He said that a hotel was being run under the building and initial investigation revealed that the fire spread from that hotel. However, the exact cause of the fire is not yet known. According to the SDM, the bodies have been removed and sent to the hospital. He said that it is also a matter of investigation that the hotel was being operated on the basis of some other license. The timely switching off of power supply by BSES helped in bringing the fire under control.

There was chaos in the area after the accident

After the fire, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the entire area. People present nearby said that suddenly a cloud of smoke started coming out from the building and within some time people were seen shouting for help from the windows. During this time many people jumped from above to save their lives. Local people also helped in the rescue and tried to save people by spreading mattresses and clothes below. Police surrounded the area so that there was no problem in the rescue operation.

Fire department officials said that by the time the initial team arrived the fire had spread significantly. There was so much smoke inside the restaurant that the rescue operation became very difficult. Many people were taken out in an unconscious state. Officials say that if the rescue had not started on time, the death toll could have increased further. At present, treatment of the injured people is going on and the condition of some is said to be critical.

Questions raised on fire safety arrangements

After this accident, once again the fire safety system of hotels and restaurants running in Delhi has come under question. Local people allege that safety standards are not followed in many buildings. Narrow streets and limited exit points make such accidents more dangerous. People say that the administration should conduct regular investigations so that such incidents can be prevented in future.

Police and fire department engaged in investigation

Delhi Police and Fire Department have started investigation into the accident. Officials say that a technical team has been called to the spot to find out the cause of the fire. The building’s electrical systems and security equipment are being examined. It is also being seen whether the hotel and restaurant had the necessary fire NOC or not.
