Delhi High Court hears petition on allegations of corruption in Indian Army
Bureau Prayagraj- The Delhi High Court has recently issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Central Government and the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). This notice has been given on a petition filed by an army officer, demanding an investigation into allegations of corruption in the Indian Army. Justice Prateek Jalan asked the authorities to file their reply within four weeks and posted the matter for further hearing on May 19.
The court was hearing a plea by Lieutenant Colonel Sumit Sheoran, seeking a court-monitored CBI inquiry into the allegations leveled against Indian Army officers. He argued that during his posting in New Delhi, he had exposed large-scale financial irregularities in procurement under the ‘Annual Contingent Grant’ (ACG).
According to the petition, public funds were misused by manipulating procurement processes, creating false records and misappropriating government assets. Items purchased with public money were allegedly shown as property of officers’ mess, while the limits of purchases were deliberately divided into several parts to avoid investigation.
The plea said, “In the course of performing his duty, the petitioner lodged several complaints starting from 06.09.2024. These complaints were accompanied by documentary evidence and clearly pointed out the role of specific officers. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, no action was taken by any officer, thereby allowing the crimes to continue and destruction of evidence.
Furthermore, they claimed that their computer systems were accessed without permission, indicating that this was a planned cyber intrusion. Sheoran said that he had sent a detailed complaint to the CBI in January 2025, but no FIR was registered. They also alleged that they faced retaliatory action after filing complaints. This included recording negative comments in his ‘performance report’ and transferring him to Nagpur.
