Big twist in Unnao rape case! HC stays Kuldeep Sengar’s sentence, gets release on these conditions

Kuldeep Singh Sengar: Delhi High Court on Tuesday (23 December) suspended the life imprisonment awarded to expelled Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar. In the Unnao rape case, the trial court had convicted Sengar and sentenced her to life imprisonment. The division bench of Justice Subramaniam Prasad and Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, while giving the order, said that we are suspending the sentence.

While giving the verdict after hearing the case, the bench has put some conditions before Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The bench has said that a personal bond of Rs 15 lakh along with three sureties of the same amount should not come within 5 kilometers of the victim’s house. Instructions have been given to stay in Delhi till the appeal is pending.

The court put these conditions before Sengar

The court asked Sengar’s lawyer to ensure that if he is found guilty, he is present to complete the remaining part of the sentence. Instructions have also been given not to threaten the victim or the mother. Apart from this, Sengar will have to submit his passport to the trial court. At the same time, instructions have been given to report to the local police station once a week, every Monday at 10 am.

Interim bail was granted earlier this year

Earlier this year, Sengar was granted interim bail to undergo cataract surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital. Similar relief was given to him in December last year also. Sengar’s sentence has been suspended by the High Court pending the appeal challenging his conviction and sentence in the rape case. He has challenged the trial court’s December 2019 decision in the rape case.

What is the whole matter?

Sengar had kidnapped and raped a minor girl in 2017. Rape case and other related cases on August 1, 2019 Supreme Court directed at Uttar Pradesh Was transferred to Delhi from a trial court. Sengar’s appeal against his sentence in the custodial death case of the victim’s father is also pending, in which he has sought suspension of the sentence on the grounds that he has already spent a lot of time in jail. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail in the custodial death case.
