Delhi IGI Airport Drug Trafficking Rises: The country’s capital Delhi is becoming a ‘transit hub’ of drugs. Drugs are being seized continuously at Delhi IGI Airport. International smuggling of drugs through Delhi Airport has increased in the last few months. In the last two months, 111 kg of drugs have been seized at Delhi IGI Airport. Eight international smugglers have been arrested in this case.
At the same time, the consignment of drugs continuously reaching Delhi from South-East Asian countries has increased the concern of the investigating agencies. Initial investigation has indicated that international smugglers are trying to make Delhi a transit hub for drug smuggling.
In the month of May-June itself, more than 111 kg of drugs were seized and 8 smugglers were arrested at IGI Airport. In this, 81 kg of drugs have been seized in the month of May alone. In the latest case, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department has recovered 6.934 kg of heroin from the possession of an Indian passenger who had come from Kuala Lumpur and arrested him.
According to customs officials, on June 16, a passenger who reached Delhi from Kuala Lumpur by flight number OD-205 was stopped at the green channel of Terminal-3 on the basis of profiling. When officials examined his two trolley bags, they recovered four vacuum packets filled with a white powdery substance. In the test, this substance was found to be heroin, whose total weight was found to be 6.934 grams. According to investigating agencies, smugglers are constantly adopting new methods.
Consignments coming from South-East Asian countries
The agencies believe that efforts are being made to supply drugs to India and from here to other countries through flights coming from South-East Asia.
