Nutritious food program launched for school children in Delhi; CM Rekha Gupta said- nutrition is important for children
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched the morning nutrition program in selected government schools of the capital in collaboration with Akshaya Patra. The aim of this initiative is to increase the energy of children and support their studies. Under this, nutritious food will be provided to small children in schools, so that their health and learning ability can be improved.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that morning nutrition program for small children is being started in selected government schools of the capital. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Akshaya Patra. The aim is that when children reach school, they get nutritious food and their energy and studies get help. The morning nutrition program is based on the existing midday meal program and is designed in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nutrition vision.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that nutrition is very important for school going children so that they can concentrate their energy in studies. He said that the government has been providing mid-day meals for many years, but providing morning nutrition in collaboration with Akshaya Patra Foundation is a satisfying experience in meeting the needs of children. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is that nutrition is essential for every child. This is a wonderful initiative,” the Chief Minister said.
Delhi government launched Atal Canteen Yojana for the people of the capital in December 2025, under which nutritious food is provided for just Rs 5. First phase: Atal canteens were opened at 45 locations across Delhi. Inauguration Day: Free food served to the general public. According to the information, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood were present at the inauguration ceremony of Atal Canteen located in Nehru Nagar. On this occasion, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar released the first food token of Rs 5 and himself participated in the meal.
Under the Atal Canteen Scheme of Delhi Government, the inauguration ceremony was organized in Nehru Nagar, in which nutritious food was provided to the general public at Rs 5. First token: Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar bought and ate the food himself. Second token: Bought by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Third token: Bought by Home Minister Ashish Sood. Local MLAs were also present at the inauguration ceremony. After the program the local residents went to the canteen and started having food.
Addressing a gathering, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government has to spend about Rs 30 on each meal, but this nutritious food is being provided to the general public for only Rs 5. The Chief Minister said that lakhs of people will get affordable and nutritious food through Atal Canteen and the aim of the government is that no one sleeps hungry in Delhi. He also shared that before the inauguration he visited the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial and paid floral tributes. People who came to eat at Atal Canteen expressed happiness and said that they had never imagined that such delicious and nutritious food could be available for just Rs 5.
