In a major step to further strengthen the capital’s infrastructure and ensure traffic safety, the Delhi Government has approved a comprehensive structural audit of 44 flyovers older than 15 years. This decision is being considered important in the direction of urban development and safe transportation system. According to a government release, many of the flyovers that will be audited were constructed between 1982 and 2010. These flyovers are serving as major transport corridors of the capital despite the ever-increasing traffic pressure. In view of the increasing usage and aging of the structures with time, their technical investigation has been considered necessary. During the audit, the structural strength, load bearing capacity, surface condition and safety standards of the flyovers will be thoroughly examined.

ED’s entry in medical purchase case worth Rs 600 crore in Delhi
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also started investigation into alleged irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment worth about Rs 600 crore in the Delhi Health Department. ED has registered a case of money laundering in this matter under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). According to the information, ED’s Delhi Zone-2 team has written a letter to the Director General Health Services (DGHS), Delhi Government to investigate the matter. The agency has asked to provide documents related to all medical equipment purchases made by the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) and DGHS. The investigating agency will look into the procurement process, payment records and other related documents. ED is trying to find out whether there was any financial irregularity or violation of rules in the procurement process.

Delhi government strict on security lapses of coaching institutes
Delhi government has also started investigation and review regarding the security arrangements of the coaching institutes running in the capital after the fire in Lucknow. Ashish Sood (Minister of Education, Higher Education and Technical Education) on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security arrangements, infrastructure and regulatory compliance of the coaching institutes of Delhi. In the meeting, the minister said that the Delhi government is fully committed to protecting the interests of the students and their future. He clarified that no educational institution will be allowed to compromise with the safety of students. He directed the officials to ensure that the coaching institutes follow the prescribed safety standards and rules. Strict and decisive action will be taken against institutions violating the rules.

Delhi rape-murder accused turns out to be impotent
Police have arrested cab driver Bashu Kumar in the case of kidnapping and murder of an 11-year-old girl in South Delhi. According to the police, during interrogation the accused gave information about many aspects related to the incident. Investigation has revealed that the accused had returned to Delhi from Bihar some time ago. Police say that the accused is being continuously interrogated regarding the incident and all the evidence available in the case is being investigated. The police have also conducted medical examination of the accused. The accused had declared himself impotent during interrogation and it has been claimed that something related to this has come to light in the medical examination report also. At the same time, information has come from the family of the accused that he has two sons, whose age is said to be around 4 years and 6 months. In such a situation, the problem of medical examination is getting complicated. According to officials, the investigation report will be included in the further proceedings of the case.

Uncontrolled tourist bus hits many vehicles: A painful road accident took place late Wednesday night in Nand Nagri area of the capital Delhi. While coming down from the flyover, an uncontrolled tourist bus hit several vehicles stopped at a red light. In this accident, one youth died on the spot, while three people were injured.
