Gujarat Highway Projects Set for Phased Completion Between 2026 and 2028

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, explained that the different stretches are at various stages of progress while responding to a question about project deadlines.

The Vapi–Surat and Surat–Bharuch sections of NH-48 had already been expanded to 6 lanes in 2013 and 2011, and now these stretches are being maintained under the Performance-Based Maintenance Contract (PBMC) system.

Additionally, along the same corridor, construction of 16 structures like bridges, flyovers, and vehicle underpasses is ongoing and will be finished by January 2027.

Whereas on the Bharuch–Vadodara stretch of NH-48, six cleaning has already been completed, and the road is under PBMC maintenance, while additional work continues. Seven bridges, flyovers, and vehicular underpasses are also being built on this section, with the completion target set for December 2026.

On the other hand, the Vadodara–Ahmedabad segment has already been widened to 6 lanes and is being operated and maintained under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, which will continue until 2037.

In addition, the remaining six-laning work on the Shamlaji–Motachiloda section is in progress and will be completed by June 2026.

The six-laning of the Rajkot–Jetpur stretch of NH-27 is also underway and will probably be completed by January 2027.

The government also added that the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is under construction and will be completed by March 2028. This Expressway is expected to improve connectivity for Gujarat significantly.
