148 flights canceled on New Year, trains also getting late, chaos among passengers due to fog

148 Flights Cancelled: Ahead of New Year celebrations, Delhi-NCR faces dense fog and ‘severe’ Wrapped in a blanket of pollution. Due to low visibility on Wednesday morning, 148 flights had to be canceled and two were diverted at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), causing huge inconvenience to passengers.

Residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) are currently battling the twin menace of dense fog and hazardous air quality (AQI). The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi as the fog on Wednesday was denser than previous days. Due to unfavorable ventilation index and wind speed of less than 10 kilometers per hour, pollutants remain stuck in the atmosphere, making the situation even more dire.

‘Great Crisis’ of flights at IGI Airport;

Fog has had the biggest impact on air traffic. According to sources, a total of 148 flights were canceled due to operational problems on Wednesday morning. These include 70 departures and 78 arrivals. In the morning, normal visibility at the airport was recorded at just 250 meters, while on the runway it was between 600 to 1000 meters. Two flights also had to be diverted due to poor visibility, disrupting the schedules of thousands of passengers.

Train delays and increasing wait for passengers

Along with air travel, fog has also had a negative impact on rail services. Many trains coming to and from Delhi from North India are running much behind schedule. At major stations like New Delhi and Anand Vihar, passengers are forced to wait for their trains for hours amid severe cold.

IndiGo’s advisory and forecast for the coming days

Aviation company Indigo has issued a travel advisory for passengers, warning that due to low visibility, there may be further delays in flights at many airports in North India. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their flight before leaving home. At the same time, according to the Air Quality Early Warning System, the air quality on December 31 and January 1 will be ‘severe’. There is a possibility of remaining in the same category, due to which there is little hope of getting relief in the new year.
