Delhi News: Chief Minister Atishi said the election of MCD Standing Committee member is 'unconstitutional and illegal', AAP will go to Supreme Court.

New Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party and Congress did not participate in the voting held on Friday for the last vacant seat of the Standing Committee of Delhi Municipal Corporation. AAP has termed yesterday's Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) Standing Committee elections as 'unconstitutional and illegal'. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said that in the illegal elections conducted yesterday, the Lieutenant Governor, the BJP and their officers have flouted the Constitution and democracy.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will go to the Supreme Court against the election of the 18th member of the Standing Committee held on Friday in MCD in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced that our petition will be filed in the Supreme Court today itself. Aam Aadmi Party had not participated in the elections held on Friday, calling them unconstitutional and illegal. Only BJP councilors took part in this election and after voting the BJP candidate was declared victorious.

On the election of members of the Standing Committee of Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said that our country India is run by the Constitution and the laws made according to the Constitution. The Parliament of India has passed a law to run the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which is the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act 1957… If we look at those rules and regulations, there is 'Regulation 51' which is about the election of the Standing Committee. It is clear in it that the standing committee members will be elected in the corporation meeting. Its date, time and place can be determined only by the Mayor and only the Mayor can preside over the corporation meeting.

CM Atishi said that BJP does not care about flouting democracy and flouting democracy and the Constitution. Despite the Lt Governor not having any powers, the Lt Governor gives orders and the Commissioner obeys those orders, calls corporation meetings, elections. Get it done and make an IAS officer the president instead of an elected mayor. Sundar becomes member of BJP's standing committee amid controversies

Amid political turmoil, the election of a member of the MCD Standing Committee was held on Friday. Voting was one-sided due to the boycott of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress and BJP councilor Sunder Singh Tanwar was declared victorious by securing 115 votes. With this, BJP has got majority in the most powerful standing committee of MCD. Now in the 18-member committee, BJP now has 10 members and AAP has eight members. With this, BJP's claim on the post of Chairman of the Standing Committee has been strengthened.

MCD, which failed to conduct elections late on Thursday night, called the House meeting again on Friday on the directions of the Lieutenant Governor, but Mayor Shelly Oberoi, Deputy Mayor Ale Iqbal and senior councilor Mukesh Goyal refused to preside. After this, the MCD Commissioner appointed Additional Commissioner Jitendra Yadav as the presiding officer to conduct the elections. At around one o'clock the Additional Commissioner reached the House meeting as the presiding officer and conducted the elections. During this time, all 115 members of BJP were present on the seats, while the seat of all the members of AAP and Congress as well as one independent member was vacant. Despite this, the presiding officer started the election process and gave two and a half hours time to conduct the elections.

Since there were only BJP members in the House, the voting process was completed in about a quarter of an hour. Despite this, after starting the counting of votes, he called twice the names of the members who did not vote. The presiding officer directed to speak the names of the councilors who did not vote once again 10 minutes before the end of the time for conducting the elections. In this way he gave instructions to count the votes at around four o'clock. During this, all 115 votes were cast in favor of Sunder Singh and not a single vote was cast in favor of AAP councilor Nirmala Kumari. In this way the BJP councilor was declared elected. After this, BJP councilors in the House stood on their seats and started celebrating the victory.
