DTC Rule Change: Delhi government is going to implement Automatic Fare Collection System to digitalize the process of free travel in buses. Under this, now women will have to tap their smart card instead of taking paper ticket from the conductor in the bus. But, there are some conditions attached with this new system which will exclude many women from this facility.

For which women can free travel be stopped?

According to the new rules, this card will be available only for women who are permanent residents of Delhi. Those who do not have Aadhaar or Voter ID of Delhi will not be able to avail the benefit of this free facility. This smart card will not be made for girls below 12 years of age. In such a situation, they may have to depend on other options or normal tickets for free travel.

Now you will not get a ‘free’ ride directly after boarding the bus. Women who have not got their smart card made or who do not have the card with them at the time of travel, will have to pay the normal fare. If a woman fails to provide proof of her correct identity or age during the application, her card will be rejected.
