Delhi Police Encounter: Wanted Criminal Mohammad Rizwan Shot in Leg Near Amar Colony, Delhi
The Anti Auto Theft Squad team of South East Delhi arrested a wanted criminal after an encounter late Monday night, with the suspect sustaining a gunshot wound to the right leg during retaliatory firing by police, Delhi Police confirmed on Tuesday.
The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Rizwan, on whom the Uttar Pradesh Police had announced a reward of ₹15,000 — indicating a prior criminal record and active cases registered against him in the neighbouring state.
How the Encounter Unfolded
Late Monday night, the AATS team of South East Delhi received specific intelligence about Mohammad Rizwan’s movement in the vicinity of Amar Colony in South East Delhi. Acting on the tip-off, police personnel moved to the area to apprehend him. Upon being cornered, Rizwan opened fire on the police party in an attempt to evade arrest.
In the retaliatory firing, police shot Rizwan in the right leg, incapacitating him. He was subsequently subdued and taken into custody. No police personnel were reported injured in the exchange.
Rizwan was wanted by the Uttar Pradesh Police and had been operating in Delhi, with the encounter representing a coordinated intelligence effort between Delhi Police’s AATS unit and information likely shared by UP Police regarding his movement and location.
The arrested individual has been taken for medical treatment following the encounter. Further investigation into his criminal background and active cases is underway.
