Delhi Police solved the murder case of 1991 in 2026, murder accused arrested after 35 years

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has finally caught the absconding accused, solving a sensational 35 year old murder case. This case is of the year 1991. In which an elderly woman was brutally murdered and her son was also fatally attacked.

On August 2, 1991, a PCR call was received at Trilokpuri police station that a woman had been attacked with a knife in West Vinod Nagar area. When the police reached the spot, they found a 55-year-old woman in critical condition who had been stabbed several times on the neck. His son was also lying injured with injuries on his face. Both were immediately taken to LNJP Hospital. Where the woman died during treatment. While the son survived.

Police investigation revealed that this incident was carried out by Chhavi Lal Verma, a tenant living in the house. He had entered the house at night with the intention of robbery and attacked the woman and her son with a sharp weapon. He absconded after the incident and was declared a declared criminal in the year 1996.

The team of Inter State Cell of Crime Branch worked continuously on this case for the last 6 months. The police conducted several searches at the accused’s village in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh and at his relatives’ places. Ultimately, after receiving concrete information, the location of the accused was found in Ludhiana, Punjab. On April 10, 2026, the police team reached there and arrested the accused after local investigation and surveillance.

During interrogation, the accused told that he thought that his landlady had a lot of money because her husband lived abroad. It was out of greed that he committed the crime. To avoid arrest, he remained in hiding in cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Goa and Punjab for 35 years. He did not even go to his home and did not attend programs like children’s marriage. The accused Chhavi Lal Verma has been arrested and further legal action is being taken.
