Delhi Police’s operation ‘Aghat’ before Holi, major action taken against 918 people

To maintain law and order ahead of Holi festival, South East District Police launched ‘Operation Tram 4.0’. Under this special campaign, action was taken against a total of 918 people. The aim of the police was to stop any kind of illegal activity during the festival. During the campaign, raids and arrests were made under different laws. According to police officials, this campaign was carried out continuously for several days. This is being considered a big action to strengthen the security system before Holi.

Action in NDPS and Excise Act

During the operation, 4 people were arrested under the NDPS Act. 6.66 kg of ganja and 12.70 grams of MDMA were recovered from them. Apart from this, 38 people were arrested under the Excise Act. Police seized 8276 quarts of liquor, 110 beer bottles and 28 Neer cans from their possession. Strictness was shown on the sale and storage of illegal liquor. This action was taken to stop illegal supply of liquor before the festival.

Illegal weapons and cash recovered

During the operation, 29 people were arrested under the Arms Act. Police recovered 11 country-made pistols (CMP), 13 live cartridges and 20 knives. Along with this, 62 people were arrested for gambling. Rs 82,210 in cash was seized from the spot. Police say that criminal activities increase during festivals, hence strict steps have already been taken. The recovery of illegal weapons is being considered a big success.

COTPA violation, open drinking

Police also took action against those breaking rules in public places. A fine of Rs 11,500 was collected from 63 people under COTPA violation. Apart from this, 252 people were bound down in 160 cases under Section 40A and 40B (open drinking) of the Excise Act. The police made it clear that those who drink alcohol and create ruckus in public places will not be spared. This action was taken to maintain discipline during the festival.

Preventive action under BNSS

Action was also taken against many people under the sections of the new law BNSS. 9 people were bound down under sections 126 and 169 BNSS (formerly 107/150 CrPC). Whereas under 126/170 BNSS (formerly 107/151 CrPC), action was taken against 149 people in 77 calendars. Apart from this, 39 people were bound down in 23 calendars under Section 129 BNSS (formerly 110G CrPC). This action was taken in view of the fear of possible breach of peace.

Action against 273 people under DP Act

During the campaign, action was taken against 273 people under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act. Police say that anti-social elements can become active on big festivals like Holi. Therefore, it was necessary to be strict beforehand. Through Operation Trauma 4.0, the police has given a clear message that a strict stand will be taken against those who break the law. Maintaining peace and security during the festival is the priority of the administration.
